Pool Etiquette

The Rules

  1. NEVER get into the water until your coach says so

  2. DO NOT jump or dive into the pool unless instructed to. Sit on the edge and lower yourself into the water.

  3. Make sure any equipment you will need (and your drink) is put in a neat pile on the edge of the pool by your lane.

  4. Do not play with the lane ropes whilst waiting for your turn.

  5. Do not fool around or go under the water whilst waiting for your turn.

  6. At all times you should be listening to what your coach is telling you and carrying out his/her instructions.

Useful Tips

Lane Discipline:

In order to avoid head on collisions in the water make sure you travel in the direction you have been instructed to.

Clock:

You will need to learn how to use the pool clock in order that you can do ‘sets’ on a certain send off time. This will keep your lane under control and not swimming on top of one another!

Overtaking:

Much of training is about drills and learning technique where speed is not the objective however there are times when you may find yourself swimming on top of the person in front because you have caught them up. Either swim past them if you know the lane is clear, or touch them gently on their leg. They should then let you swim past before carrying on them self.
